Our Story From Sicily, to Detroit, to San Diego, Nonno's Italian Restaurant was created with a passion to serve the finest traditional Italian food in San Diego County. Since it's first successful start in National City in the early 1960's, to its current location in La Mesa, Nonno's owners Gaspare LoMedico & Gerardo Ortiz, continue a tradition of serving the finest hearty and delicious Italian food. Gaspare LoMedico, the head of the clan, had come to America in 1940. He moved from Partinico, Sicily, to Detroit, Michigan and than to San Diego, California in 1959. In 1965, Gaspare opened his first successful restaurant in National City. Nonno's of La Mesa was born in 1998, and what a love-affair with the locals it has become since. The LoMedico Family are invited on the popular ABC syndicated night time TV hit "Family Feud" in 1981. It all began at the Masonic Temple in San Diego's Mission Valley, with the help of Channel 39 (which aired the syndicated program nightly), "Family Feud" began coming to San Diego in October, 1981, twice monthly, two days at a time. With hundreds of families interviewed, the LoMedico's were just the kind of family "Family Feud" was looking for.
