Our Story

We are not fancy. We are who we are. We love food. We love to feed people. We love life.

Regardless of where you came from, for many in America our immigrant origins remain a vital part of who we are. From Sicily, to Detroit, to San Diego, Nonno's Italian Restaurant was created with a passion to serve the finest traditional Italian food in San Diego County. Since it's first successful start in National City in the early 1960's, to its current location in La Mesa, Nonno's owner Gerardo Ortiz, who purchased the restaurant in 2005, continues a tradition of serving the finest hearty and delicious Italian food. After working and learning in some of the finest Italian Restaurants in Rome, New York City, Las Vegas and San Diego, Gerardo loves to share his culinary experiences with all of his diners.

Nonno's offers diners a rare gem — a comfortable space that eschews pretense and embraces a dedication to hospitality that turns every diner into a VIP. We at Nonno's are here to give you the best dining experience possible and we use only the freshest, finest ingredients available.
